Second Driver Arrested in Fatal Sunrise Street Racing DUI Crash as Broward Records Detail Speeds and Drinking Before Deadly Collision
SUNRISE, FL — A second driver has been arrested in connection with a deadly high-speed DUI crash in Sunrise that killed one man earlier this year, according to Broward jail records and arrest reports. Joshua Immanuel Saindyc, 24, was taken into custody Thursday on charges that include DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, racing on a highway, reckless driving causing injury and dangerous excessive speeding.
Another man, 25-year-old Samuel Morency, was arrested on similar charges on Sept. 30. Investigators say the two were racing in Dodge Chargers when they collided with a third vehicle just after 3 a.m. on May 10 in the 2700 block of North University Drive. The crash was caught on a surveillance camera.
Records say the cars were racing at extreme speeds before impact
Arrest reports say both men were driving at an extreme rate of speed in the moments before the crash, far above the posted 45 mph limit. The reports list Morency’s speed at 124 mph and Saindyc’s at about 117 mph just 0.1 seconds before impact.
Those estimates point to a violent collision that left three vehicles heavily damaged and turned a late-night stretch of roadway into a fatal crash scene. The charges filed against both men reflect prosecutors’ view that the driving was not only reckless, but part of an illegal street race that ended in death.
Investigators linked the drivers to a bar before the crash
Authorities also determined that Saindyc and Morency had been drinking with friends at a bar before the crash, according to the arrest reports. The reports did not identify the bar, and they do not say how much either man drank.
The drinking allegation is central to the DUI manslaughter case, which suggests investigators believe impairment may have played a role in the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision. The documents place the drinking, the racing and the crash within the same overnight period.
The May crash killed the driver of the third vehicle
The crash happened around 3:10 a.m. on May 10 and involved a third vehicle driven by the man who was killed, according to the arrest reports. Officials have not publicly identified the victim in the records cited, but the reports say he died behind the wheel after the collision.
Morency and Saindyc were both hospitalized after the wreck. The crash left the three vehicles heavily damaged, underscoring the force of the impact on North University Drive. The roadway, a busy corridor in Broward County, became the focus of a months-long investigation into speed, impairment and street racing.
Saindyc faces multiple felony charges after Thursday arrest
Saindyc’s arrest adds another defendant to the case and expands the criminal exposure tied to the deadly crash. His charges include DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide, which are among the most serious offenses listed in the Broward records.
He also faces counts related to racing on a highway, reckless driving causing injury and dangerous excessive speeding. Those charges mirror the allegations already filed against Morency, suggesting investigators believe both drivers contributed to the same chain of events. Jail records show Saindyc was booked Thursday, more than five months after the crash.
What the arrests mean for the Broward County case
With both drivers now arrested, the case appears to be moving from investigation to prosecution in Broward County. The records make clear that authorities are treating the incident as more than a simple traffic collision, instead framing it as a fatal combination of speeding, racing and alcohol use.
The crash also highlights how quickly a late-night stretch of road can turn deadly when speed climbs far beyond legal limits. For investigators, the surveillance video, speed calculations and drinking allegations appear to form the core of the case against both men as the legal process continues.
