Women’s wrestling

This year, Olathe South introduced its women’s wrestling team, which is becoming an official KSHSAA sport. This gives way to a huge amount of newfound gender diversity in the sport.

Conor Fitzgerald, coach, said, “Historically, wrestling has not been very gender diverse. In the past 10-15 years however, women’s wrestling has exploded across the world.”

Fitzgerald hopes to have over 25 girls on the team. Joining would open up opportunities to be part of numerous women’s wrestling programs at colleges and universities all over the country. Athletic scholarship opportunities for female wrestlers have skyrocketed in the past years.
