For Rolf Olson’s final show, he chose “Thieves’ Carnival,” the first show he ever directed at EPHS. When Olson first directed this show in 1982, they performed in the Auditorium, the only performing arts venue at the time. There was no technical director at the time, so Olson directed both cast and tech as he is doing this year as well.

In his final show at EPHS, he is bringing comedy back. After the past two years of non-traditional shows, he decided to pick a classic that would entertain and humor audiences. Olson said, “It’s a fantastically funny show, and people are going to love it when they come to see it.”

Set in France in the 1930s, the show follows the journey of three thieves who like to use disguises to trick, steal and amuse the audiences. Olson said he is most looking forward to seeing the actors in their costumes because in a couple of cases, “it’s gonna be hilarious.”

Both technicians and actors agree that the performances will be “bittersweet” since it is Olson’s final production. Junior Karin Seaver, who plays Juliet in the show, said, “I’m really glad I get to work with him, but it also means that I don’t get to work with him again, which is sad.”

Stage Manager, Eliza Nebeker, agreed, saying, “I want to make sure he gets the best possible send-off that we can manage.”

“Thieves’ Carnival” is sure to surprise and excite audiences. “The bigger the audience, the better the show will be,” said Seaver. You can catch the show on April 26 and 27 at 7:30pm in the EPHS Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.
