Police officers inspect shattered showroom windows after a BMW dealership crash in Gainesville, Florida

Florida Driver Accused of Crashing Into a Gainesville BMW Showroom After a Failed Credit Check Appears in Newly Released Bodycam Footage

GAINESVILLE, FL — Newly released police bodycam footage shows the aftermath of a Florida man crashing his car into a BMW dealership after being denied a test drive. The video, published by Patrol Cam Live on October 1, shows officers walking through the damaged showroom, checking shattered glass and reviewing surveillance footage of the collision.

The driver, Kevin Alexander Leiman, was 20 when the incident happened on February 25, 2025, at a dealership in Gainesville. Police said he had come to the North Main Street location hoping to buy a BMW M4 valued at about $110,000.

Failed credit check set off the confrontation at the dealership

According to a WCTV report, the visit started around 2 p.m. when Leiman tried to qualify for a test drive. Police said he failed the credit check required for that step and became upset.

Employees then stopped him from taking the BMW keys as he left, the outlet reported. What happened next quickly turned a routine sales interaction into a criminal investigation and a heavily damaged showroom.

Investigators said Leiman circled the dealership twice in his own car before accelerating through the windows and into the building. That sequence is visible in the surveillance video officers later reviewed at the scene.

Officers found shattered glass and reviewed security video

The bodycam footage captures officers surveying the scene after the crash. They can be seen looking over the broken windows and talking with dealership employees about what happened.

Police also reviewed security video that showed the car striking the building. The footage helps explain how the collision unfolded and why officers were able to piece together the events so quickly after arriving.

Officers later located Leiman a short distance away, according to the report. The bodycam video adds a clearer view of the damage left behind inside the dealership after the crash.

Fire rescue said nobody was hurt and the building stayed sound

Gainesville Fire Rescue said no injuries were reported in the incident. Despite the force of the crash and the broken showroom windows, the building was considered structurally sound.

Police initially estimated the damage at about $60,000. That figure reflects the cost of the crash itself and the repair work likely needed for the showroom glass and surrounding area.

Even with the damage, the absence of injuries meant the case centered on property loss and the actions that led up to the crash rather than an emergency medical response at the scene.

Leiman was booked on attempted theft and criminal mischief charges

After the incident, Leiman underwent a medical evaluation before being booked into the Alachua County Jail. Authorities said the charges were related to attempted vehicle theft and criminal mischief.

He later pleaded not guilty in March. Court records show that a pretrial intervention agreement filed on October 14, 2025, allowed him to be released under conditions.

Those conditions included monthly visits with a pretrial intervention officer, fines, and substance abuse and mental health evaluations. The agreement is part of the case’s legal path after the crash and arrest.

Court records show release terms after the October agreement

The pretrial intervention deal offers a structured alternative while the case moves forward, but it also places continuing requirements on Leiman. Monthly officer visits and the evaluations are intended to monitor compliance while the charges remain tied to the incident.

What began as an attempted dealership purchase became a case involving property damage, arrest paperwork, and court supervision. The newly released footage now provides a fuller public view of the immediate aftermath, months after the February crash.

It also shows how officers documented the scene, gathered employee accounts and matched the damaged showroom to the car seen in the security video. Those records have become central to understanding what happened at the Gainesville dealership.
